Your home can be designed with beautiful furniture and fine décor but nothing completes a room like great artwork.
The goal for this remodel was to create a space that is both visually appealing and practical for a busy family. The largest design challenge was balancing the two diverging tastes of the couple. With one looking for a minimalist, sleek design where everything has a home hidden from view. The other, wanting texture and character, a home that feels welcoming and warm.
In a joint effort between ASID & NKBA the 2023 San Diego Kitchen tour featured some amazing spaces. The Arise team was on hand to show off the remarkable transformation of this space.
We assessed the current layout and identified areas for improvement for function and efficiency, while balancing an open space that maintains the separation of a “cooks kitchen”. With bar seating integrated with the island and a banquette for casual dining, the new space offers opportunities to entertain, cook as a family and have a seating area that works for a range of uses. The whole area is separated from the dining and living rooms, creating an openness within a delineated floor plan.
The previous floor plan had the pantry centered in the kitchen, it was terrible for flow and divided the space. The new appliance package was state-of-the art with a downdraft hood behind a flush mounted induction cooktop.
The push/pull coming from the style each of the homeowners. The husband loves minimal, Scandinavian style with modern lines, where less is more and everything has a home out of sight. The house is not very modern and it’s architecture and they have done a good job of adding a contemporary flair to it. Left to her own devices, she would bring in more warmth through materials and color. Lamenting about European oak floors.
White, frameless cabinets with sleek pulls are punctuated with warm wood tones and a floating live-edge shelf. Behind the slab doors are hyper-functional features like bi-fold, lift-up doors for easier access, a magic corner, pull out pantry and appliance garages. Matte finish porcelain countertops and integrated appliances keep the focus on the space and views.Overall, this modern kitchen remodel created a beautiful, functional, and efficient space. Resulting in a stunning kitchen that balances two styles, adds value and function to the home and enhances the families quality of life.
In the end, they’re both delighted with the results something that feels like balance than a compromise
